October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness, encourage important conversations and recognise the people and families whose lives have been touched by breast cancer.

At Century 21 City Bowl | Camps Bay, we spend our days talking about homes — their location, their value, their potential and the memories waiting to be made within them.

But this month reminds us of something far more important.

Behind every property are people. And people will always matter more than property.

Home Means More When Life Changes

We often describe a home in terms of bedrooms, bathrooms, views and square metres.

Yet when life becomes difficult, those things suddenly seem far less important.

Home becomes the place where someone makes you a cup of tea.

Where family gathers around the kitchen table.

Where friends arrive with dinner when cooking feels like too much.

Where difficult conversations happen, good news is celebrated and the people we love remind us that we don't have to face everything alone.

That is the true value of home.

Awareness Begins With Conversation

Breast Cancer Awareness Month encourages people to become more aware of breast health and to seek appropriate medical advice about screening or any changes that concern them.

It also helps create space for conversations that aren't always easy to have.

Sometimes awareness begins with something as simple as asking someone:

“Have you had your check-up?”

Or reminding ourselves that looking after everyone else shouldn't mean forgetting to look after ourselves.

Celebrating Strength — Without Forgetting the Journey

During October, we often see the pink ribbon as a symbol of breast cancer awareness.

Behind that little ribbon, however, are millions of individual stories.

There are those currently undergoing treatment.

Those waiting for answers.

Those celebrating recovery and survivorship.

Families and friends supporting someone they love.

Healthcare professionals and caregivers providing support.

And there are families remembering someone who is no longer with them.

Every journey is different, and every story deserves compassion.

The Power of Community

One of the things that makes the City Bowl and Camps Bay special isn't simply the beautiful homes or extraordinary surroundings.

It's the people who create the community.

Neighbours checking in on one another. Friends arriving when they're needed. Local businesses supporting community initiatives. Families rallying around someone going through a difficult time.

Support doesn't always need to be something enormous.

A phone call matters.

A meal matters.

A lift to an appointment matters.

A message saying “I'm thinking of you” matters.

Sometimes simply being there is enough.
